The Founder depicts the initial days of McDonald’s, and how it became what it is today.
The movie showcases innovative strategies such as use of production line concepts to reduce delivery time from more than 20 minutes to a matter of seconds; the franchise model and the rapid expansion of McDonald’s to be one of world’s largest real estate owner, apart from starting the largest food chain across the globe.
It also portrays the undying spirit of Ray Kroc, despite the obstacles faced by him. The speech about “Persistence”, originally by Calvin Coolidge, is indeed inspiring.
It also describes some other aspects, such as Ray Kroc’s personal life, his cut-throat expansionist strategies, and how the McDonald brothers had to eventually sell their brand (though a part of it seems to be dramatized).
It is a recommended watch for business and entrepreneurship enthusiasts.
As quoted by Stephanie Merry in her review of the movie for The Washington Post, “The Founder” is little more than a deflating reminder, as if we needed one, that the winner takes all, and integrity isn’t always the key to success.
